Chandra Observations of the Planck Early Sunyaev–Zeldovich Sample: A Reexamination of Masses and Mass Proxies

Using Chandra observations, we derive the $Y_{\rm X}$ proxy and associated total mass measurement, $M_{500}^{\rm Y_X}$, for 147 clusters with $z \leq 0.35$ from Planck Early Sunyaev-Zel'dovich catalog, 80 0.30$ an X-ray flux-limited sample. We re-extract SZ}$ measurements obtain corresponding proxy, SZ}$, full mission maps, minimizing Malmquist bias due to observational scatter. The masses re-extracted using more precise position characteristic size agree published PSZ2 values, but yield a significant reduction in scatter (by factor of two) SZ}$-$M_{500}^{\rm relation. slope is $0.93\pm0.03$, median ratio, SZ}/M_{500}^{\rm X}= 0.91\pm0.01$, within expectations known calibration systematics. SZ}/Y_{\rm ratio $0.88\pm0.02$, good agreement predictions cluster structure, implying low level clumpiness. In findings Collaboration, SZ}$-$D_{\rm A}^{-2} Y_{X}$ flux relation significantly less than unity ($0.89\pm0.01$). extensive simulations, show that this result not selection effects, intrinsic scatter, or covariance between quantities. demonstrate analytically changing SZ}$-$Y_{X}$ apparent properties results best-fit closer increases dispersion about redistribution resulting transformation implies best fit parameters will be sample-dependent.
